(www.sowetanlive.co.za) Minister of police Nathi Mthetwa |
DECLINES WERE MADE IN ALL SEARCH CATEGORIES OF CONTACT CRIME:
- Murder
- Attempted murder
- Sexual offences
- Assault
- Aggravated robbery and also common robbery.
However the absent of reasons as to why crime decreased cast serious doubt on the methodology used to gather and record information.
The minister could not explain how he worked on decreasing the crime level in our country, how sure can the citizens be about the information given to them?
The police are even nowhere near their target, with some categories such as business robberies increasing.
Institute for security studies researcher Dr Johan Burger said it was important that extreme audits be conducted of the crime statistics so that accurate information could be documented.

There are also serious concerns where difficulties were find that police are involved in these crime scenes, some South African citizens feel that police are as good as criminals and they can not be trusted.
If victims trusted police than than there would be more reports made.
It will be actually a disgrace to the Police Department if they did not do their research honesty.
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to believe that the crime rate has decreased, everyday in South African news papers you find headlines about crimes being commited and how bad the crime rate in South Africa is.It is even said that SA is one of the countries with the highest rate of crimes commited, the police department need to give the public factual statistics. The release of inaccurate information is not good for the image of our police force.
ReplyDeleteSo if accurate information was not gathered, why did they have to lie about having done the research?
ReplyDeleteThe SAPS must have a strategy that will enable the plice to gather their data accurately. This situation is being handled recklessy and represents our country in a bad way.
ReplyDeleteAt times when I view how slowly the police respond to crime situatiions I often think that the police are as good as criminals and can not be trusted.
